Helen

You might remember the "Beautiful technology" earrings I made using blue howlit. They got soon reserved with the additional request for a matching necklace.

It took me a while but now the necklace is ready.

As you see I have no model so it was myself posing with this new piece. (Volunteers welcome for modeling! And I'm being serious now.) The length of the necklace is of course adjustable.

Today after work I somehow (...) walked into one of my favourite bead shops and they were having sales at extremely low prices on ready jewelry made using minerals. I am saving money for a holiday but I just could not resist, especially because normally they do not sell ready-made jewelry so now was the time to grab a bargain on hand-made pieces.

So it is not only Helen getting some new jewelry now, but also your La Kukac, what a wonderful day!

Shamal

It is funny how certain things can bring people closer, not only in the sense as men and women but in the sense as people in general.

I was born into a car-loving family so it was almost sure that I will either hate or love cars when I grow up, no other way. The first happened.

When I step on the balcony of my flat I love looking down and watch people passing by or parking with their cars. I can spend a lot of time with that.

Ever since my childhood I have had funny stories with car-enthusiasm. Cars (especially a certain brand) brought my boyfriend and my best friend into my life. That brand has always been my number one but I never thought it would determine so much in my life, and here we are. Just funny.

Come to Liguria

Some weeks/months ago I had a dream (don't remember what it was) and because it was so weird I looked it up in the dream-dictionary. It said that I should expect some difficulties ahead and a challenging period in my life. It seems that it was right - we have been going up and down for the past few weeks on end. One day all seems right and the next it all turns upside down.

So has been our holiday destination for this year changing.

It seems that my dream to make a jeep-tour in Morocco will need to be put off again and now we are browsing holiday houses in Liguria, Italy. This has been an old dream of mine too and it would mean setting off by car again, just like we did last year when touring all over the Balkans. It was a great deal of fun so I would expect the same. I want hot sunshine, sea, discovery and adventures again, oh yeah!

What Everybody Must Know about Hand-made and Natural Jewelry

I have been thinking about writing this post for a while but today I felt like it was time.

When people look for and buy jewelry they do it out of fun if it is for themselves just as well as if it is as a present. Jewelry is something you can live without but you don't want to. Nowadays a customer can choose of thousands if not millions of offers on the web and all over the place. You can want almost anything, sooner or later you will find the maker for it.

But if you want natural materials and/or hand-made stuff, your expectations must be a bit different. These aspects are better considered before than after the purchase. Many of them are positive ones of course and don't really wish for considering but some do.

It is easier to sum up what you do not buy with hand-made jewelry: pieces that are produced by the thousand in China, pieces that are made by machines, pieces that mean a compromise for you and that you will see on many others. What you do buy is jewelry made with care, made by taking the time for it, and most of the time pieces that are unique. In my case, you can be sure you will never bump into any duplicate piece anywhere. I can make similar pieces but never duplicates. It is a kind of principle that might sound stupid but for me it increases the value of each item. This can be one of the reasons why I am so happy when I actually meet the person who will wear my stuff - because the person is just as unique as the piece of jewelry she bought.

But you must know that because humans make mistakes and machines do not, your hand-made item might not be perfect in the sense of being flawless. Every jewelry-maker aspires to do their best but we are not CNC-machines to be able to do exactly the same bend or length twice.

In the case of natural materials, this factor is even more important. Nature is perfect in its own way but not in the way machine-moulded plastic pieces can be. Please do not expect a wooden bead to look or feel like it was plastic - fortunately, this is impossible. Do not expect two beads to be 100% identical if they are made of ceramic or shell or wood and so on. The necklace of today is a good example to this: this is the whole amount of this big brown wooden bead that I could get and some are not immaculate. But I loved them and decided to use them. Still, the necklace will not fall apart because of these faults. If you look at the whole piece itself you will see that these small faults will not worsen the overall image.

As you might have already noticed I am fully against anything plastic, for many reasons. First of all, it is artificial and just as much as I don't like it around me, I will not wear it on my skin, after all it is nothing but a lot of disgusting and harmful chemicals moulded into a kind of desired shape. A plastic bracelet is no different from a plastic bag you get for free at the check-out of the supermarket.

As for my items, I am always ready to give as much information as possible. If we meet personally, you can always check my items however you want to, you can try them on, you can compare them, we can talk about them for as long as you want to, I can even make certain modifications if this is your wish. You are not just a customer but a person who holds a piece of my inner self in her hand and who values this effort.

Considering all this, what you can expect from a hand-made natural piece is to be perfect in the sense as anything natural is perfect. You can expect it to be unique, to reflect your own style and to last a certain time.

And besides all this, you can be sure that you will respect, cherish, and love this piece of jewelry more than any other you have bought in a shop never knowing where it was from or who it was made by.

Unite

I don't know what is happening in the world these days but I bump into nothing else but pregnancy news around me. This is of course nothing bad, on the contrary, it makes me very happy.

It just reminds me of the lines Peter Falk had in Cassavetes' 1974 film, A Woman Under the Influence, when he was talking about the baby boom he experienced around him so suddenly, after years of no babies born.

I know that some of these young Mums and Dads need some support in these moments so let these two necklaces symbolize my wish for you all: that your powers unite and soon you will receive a new baby boy or girl - whenever the time is right. Do not have fear, nature knows what is best for us even when we do not know and will gently direct us all to where we belong just as it will direct your baby where it belongs: to you.

Marti

This won't be a long post as it seems that Blogger does not want to work properly today.

So I decided to just recommend one great contemporary film to you, made in Romania in 2010: Marti, dupa craciun ("Tuesday, After Christmas"). We saw it yesterday and loved it. All very realistic with extremely long cuts it was a bit like sitting in the couple's living room and watch their lives change.

Go and see it if you have the chance.

Akhellouf

It is one of the places I dream of going to. I would love to discover every corner of the world this is why I never go to the same place twice, but if I had the chance to visit all the countries this would be the second to go to after Chile.

This year my dream might come true.

It all started with a magazine article I read many years ago, which described life in the most vibrant city of this country from the point of view of a foreigner who has got a house there. Ever since this has been the only place where I wanted to own a house.

I am not sure if this dream will ever come true, but if not, that is still not a big issue after all I hate the idea of owning a house in general.

This is why I named this necklace made of amethyst and wood Akhellouf - if you take a close look you will see the name of this village on the map.

Ei nozanin

As promised, today I am showing you the first piece to get sold yesterday at the fair.

It is jingling not only because I added coins to the shell but more thanks to the tiny bells also attached. I love bold pieces of jewelry that work by themselves and do not hide in a shy way behind the clothes. This one is also like that: it dresses you up, you only need to put on a simple but elegant top, add the necklace and there you go, the outfit is ready. I think I would just underline it with a ring made by using shell as the main stone.

I wish good health and a future full of love to the recipient! Any amendments needed, just let me know and I'm there for you.

A walk in the forest

One month ago we took A walk on the beach together. Now let's go to the forest - it's springtime so this is just what I will be doing for the next few months for sure whenever I can.

There aren't many things better than nature itself. Let's follow the traces of the forest animals, listen to the song of the birds, follow our dogs to find fresh spring-water, watch out for light to find green clearings and then go back under the trees to find peace and silence.

The photos in the collage are from: Orsi Volkai, Peter Nagy and me.

Kenya

Tonight we saw another great movie (hey, I haven't told you about movies for such a long time now!) called Haevnen, directed by Susanne Bier from Denmark. It depicts two different worlds and mentalities collide, in the end of the film producing a winner of these. The African scenes were shot in Kenya.

So in honour of this Oscar-winning movie I call today's necklace the Kenya necklace.

As just another piece of natural jewelry made by me, the main material is wood, mixed with tiger's eye. Can't help it, it is one of my favourite minerals I guess. Ladies, because I know many of us like pink, not only the bigger beads are pink but if you look at it closely you will find some more tiny little pink cubes hiding there like little candies to put a smile on our face and some color in the world.

Old-new me

I had to do it, I was so fed up and bored with my long hair and at the same time I felt like something was wrong. I made this necklace last weekend but now that I show it to you I must call it the "Old-new me necklace" because today is the day when I got back my old-new me. Old, because I already had very short hair in the past. New, because for many years now I have had long hair and I was satisfied with it, until one certain moment came.

Sometimes a feeling comes, I make up my mind and make a change which is not necessarily a change in hairstyle like this time but could be almost any kind of change. It is a matter of just some hours or days. And then I am so happy I did it!

Wanna see it? Come and visit me in Bálint-ház, Budapest, 3 April - next Sunday between 10 am and 4 pm at the small design fair!

Moss

It was raining today. Almost everybody was complaining but to me the changing of seasons is so amazing that I was actually happy to see rain instead of dry cold let alone snow. Rain is the start of spring, the start of a new life. Even if we have to stay inside the house for these few days I am happy about this.

Because then, soon, the sun will shine again and everything will be in bloom - I can't wait!

Step into the world

Some of these beads have been waiting so long that my heart was aching every time I looked at them in my bead collection. Now it was their time.

In my first post here I already mentioned that green is my favourite color. No wonder that this time again I built up the necklace around one single green bead, made of ceramic.

The best advice I ever got or read anywhere was not to create average stuff for average people because that is not what I am supposed to do. I have been thinking about this advice for the last days and I try to incorporate it into my works as much as possible.

I am sure that anyone willing to buy and wear handmade jewelry cannot be average, for they could as well buy plastic jewelry in Tesco which could still look good - but never unique or valuable. There is so much to discover in the world as well as in ourselves that we just cannot stop at any point in our life to develop in this process and we should never be afraid to get deep into what and who we really are - opposed to what and who the people and the world wants us to be seen. You just cannot spend too much time or energy on this. Be brave, step out of that circle you live in, step into the world, step into your world and find out what is there!

Normally I love delicate and bold jewelry too but I prefer bold pieces. This wooden necklace is an example for that.

I will put it on sale soon hoping that its new owner will wear it in good health and that my necklace will make her a little bit more herself: a braver, less average self.

Eshebo

I love wood as material no matter what the end product is, furniture or jewelry or anything else. I love the touch of it, the warmth, and love to know that it is a gift from nature.

With leather sometimes I get contradictory feelings. It is natural but still, in most of the cases we must commit violence in order to get it.

Here I combined a lot of wood with a leather string of adjustable length, added a shell pendant and the tiny metal bear to bring some playfulness into the piece. Because the owner is a playful and very girly girl who at the same time can be really serious and give you just the best advice. I hope that the necklace reflects her dual personality.

YES to the Pink razor

Remember the Looong necklace?

Well, last week I had a request for a similar, but wilder piece personally from Pink, the singer herself. OK, she is my friend and she was Pink only for that one night (when I was Lady Gaga...) but still, it was an honour and a pleasure, even by the given tight deadline.

And by then I didn't know yet just how important this night would be - her boyfriend proposed and she said YES!

Congratulations to our friends: Szera and Laga!

And Ladies, be careful: my jewelry has supernatural power!

Annamaria

The person who got this necklace also got a song from me. I think this is a beautiful one though I couldn't sing it as beautifully as Sebestyén Márta does, and the tears in Annamaria's eyes did not make it easier either. Unfortunately there is even a video recording of my "performance".

Here is the necklace and here is the lyrics of the song - it is in Hungarian, sorry. But for all those who would like to listen, I also insert the song itself at the end of this post. If you have a heart for it you don't even need to understand the lyrics (although it is beautiful), you will feel the flow anyway.

1.
Azt gondoltam eső esik
Pedig a szemem könnyezik
Az én szemem sűrű felhő,
S onnan ver engem az eső.

2. Gyere rózsám békélünk meg,
Mi egymásnak engedjünk meg
||: Mindig voltak kik így jártak, mind megengedtek egymásnak :||

3.
||: Nyújtsad kezed, bár egy felet, bár még egy szót szóljak veled :||
||: Nyújtsad kezed keresztesem,
Búcsúzzunk el örökösen :||

4.
||: Úgy fáj az én gyönge szívem, nem tudom tied fáj e vagy nem :||
Fáj is annak, mit tudsz tenni,
Mikor ennek így kell lenni,
Ha a tied úgy tud fájni,
Soha sem tudunk megválni.

Fruzsina had a dream

Something metal, something feminine, something like a statement. Her boyfriend told me about it here.

So I made it - a bit shorter than the looong version, a bit softer with the key medal instead of the scissors, and a bit jingly thanks to the tiny bell next to the two medals. Length is adjustable.

A walk on the beach

La Kukac wanted to feel some summer breeze today.

Walk on the beach, feel the sand between your toes, step on tiny shells, hear the fishermen from the distance, see as the sea and the sky become one on the horizon, feel the smell of the seawater, step into it and on the small pebbles at the bottom, walk along the shore, going nowhere. Look up and see nothing else but the light brown sand and the light blue sea.

This necklace is the way I made this dream come true today.

Made of wood and another lovely mineral: a kind of jasper or jaspis (képjáspis in Hungarian). It is a semi-precious stone. Said to relieve the feeling of guilt, bring us closer to the past and to the earth and cleanses the kindeys, while at the same time strengthens the stamina.

For whoever believes in astrology, this mineral fits mostly the Capricorn and the Taurus as these are earthy, solid signs which the jaspis helps to develop and deepen their inner good qualities.

The looong metal necklace

Sometimes I still feel like I can't figure out what exactly makes people excited about my jewelry and what they don't really find interesting.

The story about this necklace was also a surprise for me yesterday. I don't wear it very often as I prefer warmer materials but this goes with some office outfit so I wore it yesterday. One of my colleagues came to me and asked where I got it from, he said his girlfriend has been trying to find something similar for ages but did not see any affordable and quality piece. So I told I made it and if he would like, I can make one for his lady too. The funny thing is that if not for this event, I would have never thought of posting this necklace here, I just forgot it exists and that actually I made it.

As you see, it is all metal: the double (and extremely long) string and the medals as well. People love to comment on the medals, they find out all kinds of stories why I paired the wing with the scissors.

I guess most people would prefer it a bit shorter, for me its length adds a bit to its speciality.

So, this is the next order in line - with a shorter string and different medals of course.

For R

Today finally I had the chance to give somebody a necklace I have made especially for her some weeks ago and could hardly wait to finally be able to present her.

Her wish was a white necklace slightly longer than the style she usually wears. When I started to make the necklace I already knew that the white thread is not enough and I will need to give it a bit more emphasis but I was not sure if she will be happy with the black lace or not. In the end it turned out (well, according to what she told me...) that she liked the idea.

You can find everything from ceramic beads to a small metal star on this piece. I do not like over-constructed things without any freedom or spontaneity so it was obvious that the beads will not be symmetric.

I am sure I will experiment more on this style, already bought some more textile threads!
